What is Thai (Yoga) Massage?

Thai (Yoga) Massage can trace its roots back to a man named Jivaka Kumar Bhaccha who was a physician to the Buddha himself some 2,500 years ago. The practice is and was passed from teacher to student and developed by ordinary people across the centuries.

Thai (Yoga) Massage arrived in modern day Thailand more than 2 millennia ago and has formed a hands-on branch of traditional Thai medicine alongside herbs and steam baths. Thai people view massage as a normal part of everyday healthy living.

Thai (Yoga) Massage is not based upon the anatomical system that is understood in western medicine, but rather thousands of years of expertise honed through hands on practice and empirical observation of the body and mind.

What can I expect from treatment?

This form of bodywork uses methods such as acupressure to stimulate the Sen or energy lines. Much like the practice of yoga, Thai (Yoga) Massage seeks to maintain a healthy mind, body and spirit by facilitating the free flow of Prana or energy through your Sen.

Eastern Philosophy believes that there is more than just the physical body: each person has an energy, memory, subconscious and cosmic body as well as the physical. This concept may seem strange to a western educated mind but it can simply be thought of as a metaphor to describe the complex layers there are to each of us through our physical, emotional and mental experiences.

Thai (Yoga) Massage combines both practices from eastern massage and yoga which culminates in a physical experience for both giver and receiver. Stimulating stretches and both therapeutic and energising touch work together to ease muscular pain, tension and relieve stress, proving to be beneficial to even the stiffest of bodies.

What do I need to wear?

Traditional Thai Yoga Massage is a physical form of bodywork. You therefore need to make sure that you are able to move very freely and easily, unrestricted by your clothing.

Ideal garments are:

A t-shirt with sleeves (without buttons)

Trousers (such as leggings or tracksuit bottoms) rather than shorts. This is because covering up makes the acupressure part of the massage more comfortable to receive.

NB: Please bring a pair of thick socks as your feet can become cold if not being worked on. A blanket will be provided to help you stay warm. Ladies: please wear a soft sports bra rather than underwired bras for comfort when receiving treatment around the sternum area.

For a full body Thai Oil Fusion Massage you will be required to be in underwear only. Ladies, please remove your bras. Fresh towels will be supplied. After your consultation I will leave the room to allow you to get undressed and onto the massage bed. Please lie prone (on your front) and cover your lower half with a towel. I will return after knocking and ensure you are warm and comfortable before we begin.

For Soothing and Rejuvenating Top Up Thai (Yoga) Massages you will be required to remove upper body garments but can keep trousers.etc on. Please remove your socks for the Soothing Massage as I will be working on your feet.

For Targeted Thai (Yoga) Massage what you wear will be dependant on the area of the body worked on and whether treatment takes place on the massage bed or mat. You will be advised on booking.

When and how do I pay for treatment?

I have a portable SumUp card machine onsite to allow you to pay easily and safely after treatment.

Cancellation charges can be paid via BACS. You will be provided with these details via email in the event this is applicable to you. Please make this payment no later than 24 hrs after the time your treatment would have been.

What happens if I’m late for my treatment?

Please allow twenty minutes for the initial consultation and ten minutes for any follow up treatments. If you are ten minutes late to the appointment unfortunately the treatment will need be cancelled and rearranged. This is due to the need for a consultation prior to each treatment. There will be a 75% charge in the event this happens unless there are extenuating circumstances surrounding your late arrival.

What happens if I need to cancel?

Please let me know as soon as possible if you need to cancel an appointment. There will be a 50% charge for any appointments cancelled under 48 hours and a 75% charge for any appointments cancelled under 24 hours. There will be a full charge for missed appointments where no contact has been made to cancel or rearrange treatment unless there are extenuating circumstances.

Do I need to do anything prior to my arrival?

Once you have booked your initial massage you will be sent a new patient consultation form. Please fill this out and e-mail it to me no later than 12 hours before your appointment. This can be sent to: [email protected]

Follow up appointments will not need a consultation form completed every time. However, you will be required to read/sign a brief set of T’s & C’s during follow up consultations and prior to the start of every treatment.

PLEASE SEE BODHI TREE MASSAGE COVID GUIDELINES BELOW FOR THINGS YOU NEED TO DO PRIOR TO/DURING YOUR TREATMENT TO HELP KEEP YOU, OTHER PATIENTS AND ME SAFE.
